Market Monday – Anti Trans Mountain protesters expect more protests and arrests – Enbridge opens first North America hydrogen storage facility

From March of 2018 to the beginning of July, 211 people were arrested for breaking a court-ordered injunction at Kinder Morgan’s work sites.

Calgary, July 15, 2018 (EnergySpotlight) – Kinder Morgan has their Second Quarter conference call this week, as protests are unlikely to stop. Although arrests are down…

After the busy month of April — protest related arrests hit a peak of 170 in one week (Including Elizabeth May)— there have only been a few arrests per week.

Protests continue.

It should be noted that a decrease in arrests may be due to the fact that penalties have gotten steeper, which could include a $5,000 fine and seven to 14 days in jail.

Early on in the activism stage, those that were arrested for “civil or criminal contempt” See: Elizabeth May … were either fined $500 or ordered to do community service if they were unable to pay.

Transmountain, for what it’s worth, is remaining active on construction in Burnaby

MARKHAM, ON, July 16, 2018 (EnergySpotlight) – Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. (“Enbridge”) announced that the first major energy storage facility using hydrogen in North America is now operational.

“I’ve worked in the energy sector my entire career and this is one of the most exciting projects in which I’ve ever been involved. From their Statement —

About Enbridge Gas Distribution
Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. has a 170-year history and is Canada’s largest natural gas distribution company. It is owned by Enbridge Inc., a Canadian-based leader in energy transportation and distribution, and has ranked as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations for the past nine years. Enbridge Gas Distribution distributes natural gas to over two million customers in Ontario.

This plant provides effective energy storage to deliver power grid stability and reliability services. In the future, this technology can help reduce or defer the need for new energy infrastructure (e.g. generation, poles and wires) and provide energy storage through gaseous hydrogen, thereby reducing costs for Ontario consumers.

Market Monday, folks

Cheers!
